Organic Green Garlic from OrganicSiri®

Hara lehsun is a popular ingredient which is loaded with essential nutrients. Both the green leafy part and the bulb are edible; they can be eaten raw or cooked. They are flavorful and a small quantity can give food a great savory flavor without adding fat or calories.

Spring garlic contains the same nutrients as regular garlic. They may have a variety of health benefits, caused by sulphur compounds present in them. They have a low calorie count and are high in vitamin C, B6 and manganese. There are also traces of numerous other nutrients present in them. They are believed to help prevent and reduce the severity of common illnesses like the flu and common cold.

How to use Green Garlic

In spring garlic, both the bulb and the green stem can be used. They have a less pungent flavor. They are perfect as a seasonal side dish when grilled or roasted whole. Use the bulbs and tops separately to get two uses out of them. The bulbs don’t need to be peeled and can be used in any recipe. Add raw spring garlic to salads, dressings and sauces. It adds a great flavor braised, grilled, or pickled. Add it to a soup, or pair it with other vegetables. It also tastes great in pasta or a rice bowl. The tops can be sliced and used raw to salads, sautéed and mixed with spaghetti, or sprinkled over pizza.

Cultivation highlights

Deep, friable alluvial soils with sufficient organic matter are the best for effective cultivation. It is a bulbous plant that has shallow roots, therefore it requires correct amount of moisture. Storage

Baby garlic can be stored for around five to seven days; they should be stored in the refrigerator’s crisper drawer in loose plastic or mesh bags so that air circulates around them. Also wrapping them in a damp paper towel and placing them in a plastic bag will keep then fresh for a few days. It is recommended to cut their roots and eliminate any yellow leaves before storing them.

Availability

They can be grown during monsoon and winter. We grow them round the year at our farms and make them available all year.
