This refreshing root has a surprising amount of versatility. They are used in a variety of soups and stews, as well as in Indian curries. They are a mildly flavored vegetable having a sweet, crisp flavor. Additionally mullangis have a long list of health benefits.

Mullangi is nutritious has several health advantages. The water content of them is roughly 94 percent. They have high levels of dietary fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin C and folic acid while being low in calories. They provide potassium, which is said to help lower blood pressure. Also they are believed to aid in digestion because of their fiber content.

How to use Radish

Can be eaten raw or cooked. They are normally eaten raw in salads, but they are also wonderful roasted whole, as veggie chips, or in a fancy rice bowl. Although the skin is commonly peeled before use, it is edible and peeling is not required. They can be thinly sliced for a garnish or pickling, diced for cooking, shredded for pickling, or baked into sweet and savory meals. The greens can also be eaten raw in salads or cooked with soups and other hot foods. In south India it is popularly used in sambar, parathas, curries and for pickling.

Cultivation highlights

Being a root crop they require deep loose well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. They should be watered regularly to keep the soil moist. They can be kept for a few days in a dry, dark and cool place. For longer storage, don’t wash them until ready to cook them. Remove the greens from unwashed roots and place them in a plastic zip-top bag with a slightly damp, folded paper towel at the bottom. Place the bag in a cool, moist, dark location, such as the refrigerator’s crisper drawer.


They are best grown during the winter season; they can also be grown during mild summer. We plan growing and storing of this root vegetable meticulously so it can be available throughout the year.
