How to use Tur Dal

Kandipappu can be consumed in a variety of ways. They are the most widely used form of lentil in India. They are so versatile and healthy that they can be practically eaten every day. They are used from sumptuous preparations like the Punjabi dal tadka to the basic toor dal, snacks like mixed dal handvo and sweet treats like puran poli. They are generally soaked and cooked. They are used to make sambar, kandipodi, chutney, khichdi, curries and other snack items.

These pulses can be stored in a dry airtight container at room temperature; They should always be stored in airtight containers with tight fitting lids or closures. They should be kept far from heat, air and moisture. Adding a little turmeric powder while storing it helps to keep away the insects. Also a few neem leaves or dry red chillies can be added along with the lentils and then saved in an air tight container.


It can be grown throughout the year; summer, rainy and winter season. We grow it during the monsoon season since it is the peak season and is ideally sown in June or July.
